A Heart to Believe

ree

“And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the

stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:" Ezekiel 11:19-20

“Believe God.” Sounds easy, especially when life is going well. But what happens when our world is turned upside down — when life is difficult, uncomfortable and downright hurtful? Do we still believe or do we allow feelings to determine whether we’ll believe Him? In the Kingdom of God, it’s not about what we feel, but it’s about trusting that the written Word is real. Believe in the settled Word of God by seeking Him to change us from the inside.

We have to have a heart check to make sure we’re not disconnecting from His power. We can’t be comfortable in sin, like a stony heart (set in our own ways; rebellious; prideful; not willing to change.) But we must be uncomfortable in sin to the point that there’s conviction to seek God, repent, pray and believe that He will change us to have a heart of flesh (pliable, can be worked with to have a heart of compassion for all).

When we truly believe God, our responses change. Even in our personal storms, we’ll be able to continue, to endure, and the fruit of the Spirit is going to be the confirmation of His Word. You may be wondering if it’s too late for God to change your stony heart. God’s love for you is eternal; He’s not a short-term God. But He won’t force us to choose His way. He begins with our heart. He works with us when we’re willing to work with Him to believe and change, according to His Word.

God already sees the best in us and He sees when we’re giving Him our best. To believe God is more than just saying it; it will take dying to self, according to 2 Timothy 2:15-16: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.”

When we believe Him by faith, we’re going to experience a Divine covenant blessing (a unilateral contract established by God with man; when the terms are met, the contract is honored; consummated; fulfilled.) The more we hunger to study His Word and get understanding, the more we will experience and reflect His passion for His Kingdom.
